On Saturday, May 31, 2025, Shepherd’s Pantry volunteers gathered at San Dimas Canyon Park to recognize their shared commitment and contributions. With over 34,000 people served so far this year, these volunteers have a lot to celebrate!
The event began with opening remarks from Sharon Weissinger, Board Member and event organizer. She welcomed all the volunteers and thanked them for their efforts this year. Because of them, Shepherd’s Pantry comes one step closer to ending hunger in Los Angeles County.
Volunteers enjoyed a mix of grilled chicken, salads, and sides as well as welcoming conversation. Served by the Shepherd’s Pantry Board, volunteers took full plates to the shaded tables in the park. Each table was filled with a mix of people from different locations and departments. Katie Reynolds remarked, “[i]t was really fun meeting people that I see here but because we’re in different places. I don’t really talk to them, and I felt like I got to get know them, so that was awesome.” While Shepherd’s Pantry focuses on giving back to our neighbors in need, we also strive to build a flourishing community of our own.
With lunch wrapping up, Board President Jeff Martin took the stage with exciting news. After months of searching, Shepherd’s Pantry has a new executive director! He welcomed Sabrina Bow to the organization and shared his hopes for the future. Sabrina also took the mic, sharing “I’m looking forward to working along side of you and growing with you to help us grow as an organization so we can serve even more folks in need with love and compassion.”
Then, Penny Pitts, Sites Manager, began the raffle. Ticket after ticket was called, and volunteers began choosing from a variety of prizes and gifts. “It was great. My wife won a bicycle. It was excellent and such a great spot,” said Ed Padgett. Smiles were wide on everyone’s faces as they eagerly showed off their prizes to the other members of the table.
With so many happy volunteers, the event was a success. And while the day was focused on the volunteers and their dedication, we also want to recognize the Board and Staff that organized, set up, and ensured the event was a success. Anna Sepulveda, Glendora Pantry Assistant, was happy to be able to give back to her team. “I thought it went great. It really did. Everything from start to finish went great. Everyone seemed to have a good time and we got it moving along.”
