More than 47 million Americans, including 14 million children, go hungry at mealtime. With this number only rising as the years go on, organizations like Shepherd’s Pantry have risen to meet the needs of their neighbors. For twenty years, Shepherd’s Pantry has strove towards completing one mission: to provide food, resources, and services from a faith-based perspective. The progress Shepherd’s Pantry has created would not exist without the community’s support. And when it comes to the success of the Stamp Out Hunger® Food Drive, you did not disappoint.
The Letter Carriers’ Stamp Out Hunger® Food Drive is the biggest food collection event in the United States. As described by the United States Postal Service, “[e]ach year, letter carriers across the country head out on their routes on the second Saturday in May to collect donations of non-perishable food items to benefit local food pantries.” (NALC 2025) This May 10th, hundreds of people left boxes and bags of food at their mailboxes. These donations were collected by the postal workers and taken to the local post offices. Shepherd’s Pantry was lucky to work with the Glendora and Covina Offices, and packed up the donations from these routes. In the 102-degree heat, thirty-eight volunteers took on the enormous task of unpacking, sorting, and safely packaging each donation. They checked expiration dates and fixed ripped labels. They ensured that this food would not be wasted. Because of their dedication, Shepherd’s Pantry will distribute over 25 pallets or approximately 75,000 pounds of food this summer.
Shepherd’s Pantry is grateful for every donation and every person involved in this event, from the donors to the postal workers to the volunteers. We would not be able to accomplish our mission without your support.
